From trinkets to treasures, these are the newest (old) things I’ve picked up antiquing lately…

Here’s another reason why I love physical media, especially those of the vintage kind…
Ooh La La-the fourth studio album from the English rock band Faces-features a very unique piece of album artwork. By pressing down on the top edge of the record’s sleeve, the face (a photograph of Italian comedian. Ettore Petroloni as “Gastone”) changes eye color and expressions.

This art deco-inspired cover does this through a cleverly concealed, die-cut design. Inside, the LP’s gatefold sleeve features a large photo-montage of the band beneath a smiling can-can dancer (a nod to the album’s title track.)

Also pictured (below) is an awesome lyric & sheet music-book for the 1973 Warner Bros. Records release, which includes some alternate, black and white images of the group.

The album-my favorite from the band’s catalogue-was reissued in 2015 with the same “animated” artwork as the original. If I had to pick, “Ooh La La” would certainly be my favorite song off of this LP of the same name.
